What's included

Everything pre-installed, nothing to configure.

Order, wait 30 seconds for deploy, log in — your stack is running.

🔁

Always-on relay node

Your home machines turn off; the VPS keeps the sync chain alive. Phone uploads photos at 3 AM — they're on your laptop by morning.

🔒

End-to-end encrypted

Files encrypted with per-folder keys before they leave any device. The VPS sees ciphertext.

📁

Selective sync

Mark folders 'send only' so the VPS receives but never sends — perfect for backups.

📊

Web GUI

Standard Syncthing admin UI on port 8384, behind HTTPS and HTTP basic auth.

⚖️

Versioning + trash

Trash deleted files for 30 days. Keep up to 10 versions of every file. Real undo, not just delete.

🌐

Public discovery

Acts as a Syncthing global announce / relay — your other devices find each other through it.

01 — Who this is for

Built for self-hosters

Run Syncthing on an always-on VPS so your laptop, phone, and home server stay in sync even when half your devices are offline. Lighter than Nextcloud — perfect when you just need files synced peer-to-peer.

🔃
Why a dedicated syncthing VPS beats DIY

You could install syncthing/syncthing official image on a generic $5 VPS. Most people who try spend an evening on the install, another on hardening, another on backups, and then it falls over the first time the kernel updates. We've done that work — every syncthing plan is tuned, monitored, and updateable in one click.

🐾
02 — The stack

What's actually running on your VPS

No black boxes — here's the exact software shipped on every Syncthing VPS plan.

The Syncthing VPS image ships with: syncthing/syncthing official image. We don't fork or patch — we use the official upstream releases, with sensible defaults for our hardware. Update on your schedule, not ours.

Everything runs in containers via Docker, so updates are atomic. If a release breaks something, roll back to the previous image in 30 seconds. No 'I broke prod by running apt upgrade' moments.

🐾
03 — The hardware

Real cores, real NVMe.

The same KVM hypervisor and enterprise NVMe drives we use across every OliveVPS region.

Regions

Common questions

About Syncthing VPS hosting.

How is this different from Nextcloud?

Syncthing is peer-to-peer — every device has every file. Nextcloud is client-server — clients pull from a central store. Syncthing wins for simple multi-device sync; Nextcloud wins when you also need calendar, contacts, office docs, sharing links.

Will my files be readable on the VPS?

Depends on your config. By default, the VPS holds plaintext (so it can act as a normal sync peer). Enable 'Encrypted Folder' on a peer and the VPS only sees ciphertext.

How much storage do I really need?

Sum the largest folder you're syncing + 50% overhead for versions and pending changes. 100 GB plan = ~60 GB usable. 500 GB plan = ~330 GB usable.

Can multiple users share one VPS?

Yes — each user adds the VPS as a device, with separate folder shares. The web UI is per-VPS though, so users see each other's folder list (folder contents stay private via per-folder pairing).
